Kevin Spacey speaks up for the first time on television in seven years.

Kevin Spacey got candid in his first television appearance since disappearing from Hollywood after several men accused him of sexual misconduct beginning in 2017.

Spacey talked to NewsNation in an interview on Thursday, admitting being “so much happier today, living a more authentic and open life,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Now, I want to prove that I’m a man of great character,” he said. “I look forward to being able to prove to people that I am the merit of who I am as a human being.”

Spacey hasn’t been working in Hollywood since facing allegations of sexual misconduct made by several men in the start of 2017.

A New York jury found him not guilty in 2022 of assaulting actor Anthony Rapp in the 1980s, and he was cleared of nine accusations in London last year.

A number of other lawsuits have also been discarded, but last month, ten more men came forward in Katherine Haywood’s two-part Channel 4 documentary Spacey Unmasked, alleging they were abused.

Spacey admitted accepting his “accountability,” but also said that “I am not going to be accountable for things I didn’t do or that were exaggerated or greatly changed.”

He added that he is “ready to move forward” and that he considers “fear” responsible for the ongoing opposition to his acting comeback.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have all the people who’ve stepped up, and I know there’s going to be more coming soon,” he said. “But there are also people that I’ve spoken to who, they love me, they believe in me.”

He continued, “They’ve stood with me in private… but they’re afraid to stand up. And I’ve been very fortunate that people have been honest with me about that. And I think that’s a shame, that we’ve come to a place as a society where people are afraid to say what they believe and what they feel because they’re afraid they’re going to get canceled too.”
